Exceptional Education at the Heart of the Community

Curriculum

From Years 1 through to 6, children have formal daily Numeracy and Literacy lessons. For Literacy, Key Stage 1 follow the Success For All (SFA) scheme and the children are grouped according to their reading comprehension level for their SFA literacy lessons into either Reading Roots groups or Writing Wings groups.  Roots children follow SFA synthetic phonics programme whereas Wings children follow Support for Spelling. At Key Stage 2 the children follow the requirements of the National Curriculum using the Power of Reading as a basis for their work.

For Numeracy both Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 follow the requirements and expectations from the National Curriculum.

Children in Years 1-6 have PSHE, Philosophy for Children (P4C), RE, Science, ICT, PE, Spelling, Handwriting and Grammar. In addition to this, Year 3 have a weekly Soundstart Ukelele music session. A foreign language is taught at KS2 at at present this is Mandarin. PE and sport are taught through a combination of specialist sports coaches and teacher input. Key Stage 2 children go swimming in Years 3 and 5 for the whole year to ensure that children have a sustained opportunity to develop their swimming skills.

Our curriculum reflects annual events such as New Year, World Maths Day, World Book Day, Easter, Harvest, Bonfire night and Christmas and is also enhanced by regular curriculum themed weeks, for example, ICT week, Science week, Health week and Cultural week.
